How to Draw Cute CAToons
This was a PAWsome idea given to me by one of my good friends, she said that she wanted to learn how to draw CAToons, too! So here's a step-by-step guide on how to do exactly that!
GATHER YOUR SUPPLIES!!!
What you need:
- Paper
- A pencil
- Some sort of electronic device (it can be anything) WITH A DRAWING APP INSTALLED
- If you're drawing from a phone or tablet, you might want a stylus pen, (just so you don't have to draw with your fingers)
- Hands (it would be pretty hard to draw without those)
1: Think of a great idea!
2: Try to make a rough draft of what you THINK it will look like, (on paper) but plans easily change, so don't try to make the exact same thing digitally. For this CAToon, I'll be experimenting with another one of my Villainous Kitties, The Mask Of Ice.
3: Let's draw the foreground. The foreground is the area in front of the main point of the drawing. Is anything going to be there? If so, what? I made some jagged spikes, I'm going to turn them into ice later.
4: Let's color our foreground!!!!
5: Now, I draw the cat's chest and front legs. (NOT THE PAWS!!!) Why? I need something to work from. In this case though, I would be drawing the cat's jacket.
Note: It's important to know what pose your cat is going to be in before you attempt drawing it! In my case, this kitty is walking forward.
6: This cat needs a head! Let's give him one.
7: It's time to add your kitty's front paws, the back legs will come later. Even though it's not very realistic, cartoon-y paws look much better. Try drawing three fingers, see how you like it.
Note: it's important to think about what mood your cat is in while drawing the facial expressions, and the paws! If your cat is angry, it will have its claws out in plain sight, unlike if it's happy, when you'll only see its fluffy paws. My cat, for instance, is sauntering forward, he wouldn't want his claws out if he was being sneaky!
8: Let's draw the facial expression, AND any accessories you plan on adding to the cat. I am going to add a mask to mine. What will YOU add?
9: Time for some back legs! Now that your kitty is finally starting to take shape, they will finish the main body!
10: Now, let's add a tail, but the tail requires some thought behind it. Will your cat have a long tail? A furry tail? A straight tail? Any tail at all? My cat will have a long, shorthaired tail.
11: Give your kitty a splash of color!
12: Here's the last step! Let's give our cat a great background, one trick that I have is, try to pick a color that REALLY makes your cat stand out!
Now it's your turn! Comment your pictures of CAToons that YOU made!
